Things that you should never do when washing your towels can make all the difference in preserving their quality. Washing towels may seem simple, but there are common mistakes that can damage the fabric, reduce softness and shorten their lifespan. And when you’re buying new towels, you want them to last as long as they can and stay fluffy and absorbent for years.
Here we sell packs of 4 towels made in Portugal with 500GSM of pure cotton. Each set includes 2 hand towels (50x100cm) and 2 bath towels (70x140cm). To help you care for them properly, avoid the mistakes below.
What you should never do when washing your towels for the first time
Skipping the first wash
It may be temting to use your brand new towels right away, but you should never use them before washing. The first wash helps activate absorbency and removes any manufacturing residues.
Using fabric softner
While it may seem like a good idea, fabric softner creates a coating that reduces absorbency over time. Better alternative: Add white vinegar to the wash ocassionally. It helps to keep towels soft and neutralizes odors.
Washing towels with other fabrics
Mixing towels with clothes or synthetic materials can damage the fibers and cause lint to stick
Using water that’s too hot
Very hot water can wear out cotton quickly. Choose warm or cold water to preserve both the fabric and natural color of your towels.
Using too much detergent
More detergent doesn’t mean cleaner towels. In fact, it often leaves residue behind, making towels feel rough.
